(16 products)

The small one that goes round the loo. Our pedestal mats are £7 each in the same 600GSM cotton as our bath mats and towels, which means sixteen colours that all match and a mat you can put through a normal wash instead of replacing. Buy it with the matching bath mat and the bathroom looks planned rather than assembled over three years.

Pedestal mats, answered

What a pedestal mat actually is

A pedestal mat is the smaller of the two bathroom mats, the one that sits at the base of the toilet and is shaped so it fits around it rather than being a plain rectangle. It is also the piece most people forget when they buy a bath mat, which is why so many bathrooms look about eighty per cent finished.

Ours are £7 each in 100% combed cotton at 600GSM, the same weight and the same range as our towels, in sixteen colours. Buy one on its own, or take the matching bath mat at £6 and have the pair.

Choosing a colour you will not regret

There are two sensible approaches. The first is to match the mats and the towels exactly, which is the safe route and looks properly deliberate in a small bathroom. The second is to keep the mats neutral, in white, cream, biscuit or taupe, and let the bath towels carry all the colour. That second way is cheaper to change your mind about later, because swapping four towels costs less than replacing the mats as well.

On practicality: the darker shades, chocolate, damson and black, hide marks best in a busy family bathroom, and white will need washing more often than you think. Lime, tangerine, fuchsia and magenta are the ones to reach for if the room is all white tile and badly needs something to look at.

Pedestal mat questions

What is the difference between a bath mat and a pedestal mat?

The bath mat is the larger rectangle you step onto when you get out of the bath or shower. The pedestal mat is the smaller one that sits at the foot of the toilet, cut to fit around the base. Most people buy them as a pair so the floor matches. Ours are £6 and £7, so the pair is £13.

Can I put a pedestal mat in the washing machine?

Yes. Ours are 100% cotton with no rubber backing, so they go in at 40 degrees with your towels and can be tumble dried. Rubber backed mats tend to crack and shed once they have been through a few hot washes, which is the main reason we do not sell them.

Do the colours match your towels?

They do, and that is rather the point. Pedestal mats, bath mats, bath towels, bath sheets, hand towels and face cloths all come from the same 600GSM cotton range, so a colour is the same colour whichever piece you buy it on. Browse the full 600GSM range to see the lot together.

Which colours do you stock?

Sixteen: white, cream, biscuit, chocolate, black, denim, blue, turquoise, lime, ivy, yellow, tangerine, red, magenta, fuchsia and damson. The neutrals are the steady sellers, but the brights are the reason people remember the bathroom.

How often should a pedestal mat be washed?

Weekly is a reasonable rule in a bathroom used every day, and more often in a family bathroom or if you have a white one. Because they wash with the towels rather than needing special handling, it is easy enough to keep two and rotate them.
